Derrick Nix

Elite Basketball Trainer | Former Michigan State Champion | Player Development Specialist

Derrick Nix is a Detroit native and former Michigan State University standout whose basketball career is defined by winning, leadership, and accountability at the highest levels of the game.

As a Spartan from 2009–2013, Derrick played under Hall of Fame coach Tom Izzo, contributing to three Big Ten Championships, two Big Ten Tournament titles, a Final Four appearance, and multiple deep NCAA Tournament runs. Known for his physical post presence, basketball IQ, and toughness, Derrick was a key part of Michigan State’s culture of discipline, work ethic, and championship standards.

Following his collegiate career, Derrick transitioned his experience into player development and training, where he now focuses on building complete athletes — mentally, physically, and fundamentally. His training emphasizes:

   •    Footwork and post development

   •    Defensive positioning and toughness

   •    Game IQ and decision-making

   •    Accountability, confidence, and preparation

Derrick’s approach goes beyond drills. He trains players the way he was coached — with structure, intensity, and purpose — preparing them not just to compete, but to win at every level.

Whether working with youth athletes, high school standouts, or college players, Derrick brings a championship mindset and firsthand experience from one of the most respected programs in college basketball.
